As the first anniversary of his death approaches, on July 2nd, it is a good time to reflect on the incredible legacy of Br Kevin Crowley.

Crowley dedicated his life to helping the poor and homeless of this city and poured all his compassion, strength and energy into this most complex of societal epidemics.

It was his resolve and single-mindedness that meant the Capuchin Day Centre became a vital hub and lifeline for Dublin’s most marginalised and vulnerable communities since it opened in 1969.

His drive and determination, and that of the volunteers and employees of the centre, made sure that countless people had food to eat and were truly seen.

The connection that Crowley made with so many people, and his empathy and heart, will never be forgotten. He brought light and hope into the lives of many, and by putting people first, he was able to uplift and remind them of their worth, despite their circumstances.

People could learn a lot from Crowley’s example, whose actions were always motivated by his faith, his kindness and a vision for a Dublin where homelessness was eradicated as opposed to tolerated. – Yours, etc,
