Now that truck and tractor drivers have cashed in, who’s up next?

Farmers affected by rain might fancy their chances

Letter of the Day

Sir, – Michael Gleeson bemoans the rain-delayed planting of crops this spring (“Farmers struggling as persistent rainy weather delays planting season”, Letters, April 21st). It made me ponder a possible subtext.

If the Government was able to subsidise the put-upon truck and tractor drivers of the nation to the tune of €500 million last week, why can’t it turn its attention to the poor unfortunates affected by the bad weather this week?

I mean, when it comes to things not within the Government’s control, surely one niche cohort is as deserving of largesse – paid for by fellow citizens – as the next?

My turn can’t come soon enough. – Yours, etc,

KEN KELLER,

Sandymount,
