Taxpayers and their pets on public transport

How about separate carriages?

The Irish Times - Letters to the Editor.

Sir, – Your correspondent bemoans the “safety issues and chaos caused by bad behaviour of animals and irresponsible owners” of pets possibly allowed on public transport and that “most law-abiding lifetime taxpayers would be enraged by this development” (Letters, March 3rd).

Perhaps your correspondent could account for the misbehaviour of children and teenagers on public transport, before turning on pets accompanied by their taxpayer owners. – Yours etc,

BEN MCCABE,

Rathmines,

Dublin 6.

Sir, – I am intrigued by the distinction made by your correspondent Jim Graney that “lifetime taxpayers” should be protected from furry pets on public transport. I would go further: separate carriages should be reserved for certified taxpayers with those who have paid the most tax entitled to heated padded seats. It is the least we deserve. – Yours, etc,

DAVID LOUGHLIN,

Rathmines,
