A chara, – Not so long ago we saw Minister for Justice Helen McEntee’s photo opportunity with senior gardaí, declaring she felt safe walking in Dublin.
Why now do we need security guards on board the buses (News, October 7th).

Sir, – It is good to know that steps are being taken to solve the problem of anti-social behaviour on buses. However, there is a further problem at bus stops in that there is no longer an orderly queue by passengers, who stand around until the bus arrives and then surge forward en masse.
The person who arrived first cannot be sure of boarding the bus even before a passenger who has just arrived at the stop, and can be left waiting as the bus drives off.
Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a solution to this problem. – Yours, etc,
