Sir, – The Road Safety Authority and the Garda Síochána are currently engaged in a crackdown on motorists using their mobile phones.

The media publish the numbers caught and the penalty points imposed.

At the same time motor manufacturers are boasting about how many features are on their screen displays in new models.

One firm is now advertising a 21-inch display.
