An article in the edition of September 23rd referred to a court case in Ankara, Turkey.
The article reported evidence given by Peter Stout in a case instituted by his wife against the Irish Embassy in Ankara. In his evidence Mr Stout made reference to Michelle Matthews, who was a secretary to the Ambassador in the Embassy of Ireland and he accused her of bullying his wife. Solicitors on behalf of Ms Matthews have pointed out that the Irish Embassy is not defending the case because it pleaded sovereign immunity. It has not and will not be cross-examining witnesses to test the veracity of their evidence and will not be going into evidence.
Mr Stout’s evidence relating to Ms Matthews will therefore be unchallenged. Solicitors representing Ms Matthews have pointed out that she “vehemently denies that she bullied Ms Gul Stout and has asked for this to be placed on the public record”.
