A 16-year-old was remanded in custody today after being charged in connection with the death of a pensioner in Cavan town on May 19th.

At a special sitting of Virginia District Court this morning, the youth was charged with assaulting and causing harm to Mr Patrick Jackson in Bridge St car park in the town. He was also charged with assaulting Mr Thomas Donegan at the post office on Market Square on the same date.

He was remanded to St Patrick’s institution after Garda objections to bail and will appear before Mohill District Court next Friday.
