Police charged a 17-year-old today with the murder of Liverpool schoolboy Rhys Jones in August last year.
They also charged a two youths and 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old man with assisting an offender. One of the youths was also charged with firearms offences.
A decision on charges against another suspect youth is pending.
"Having carefully considered all the material provided by Merseyside police I have made the decision that there is sufficient evidence and I have authorised that five people should be charged," Helen Morris of the Crown Prosecution Service told a new conference.
The youngster was shot in the neck in the Liverpool suburb of Croxteth after returning from football practice, fuelling fears of rising youth crime and gang violence.
All those charged were detained after a series of dawn raids involving more than 100 officers in Croxteth.
