Keith Wood could be set to return for English club side Harlequins at the weekend.
The news will be a major boost for the Irish management ahead of the remaining Six Nations games against Italy and France.
The Irish captain has been sidelined because of a calf muscle injury since mid-December but was able to take part in training on Monday.
A decision on his fitness will be made later this week.
