Brussels - A group of single mothers calling for the right to artificial insemination and "immaculate conception" kidnapped nine statues of Joseph from Christmas cribs in Belgium, the Belgian news agency, Belga, said yesterday.
"Mary was an independent woman. We will hold the Josephs hostage until our demands are met," said a note left at one of the cribs, which were all in public places, by the previously unknown Association for Consciously Single Mothers.
