The lawyer for the woman accused of misleading police in their hunt for Jessica Chapman and Holly Wells said his client will seek bail, a legal newsletter reported today.

"Although the case is at a very early stage and pleas are not expected for a while, we are considering bail if a safe house can be provided for her," the Law Gazettequoted Mr Roy James as saying.

Ms Maxine Carr (25), the girlfriend of the man accused of murdering the 10-year-old schoolgirls, was remanded in custody for another month last week. She has been charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The two girls disappeared on August 4th. Their badly decomposed bodies were found two weeks later in woodland near their home town of Soham in eastern England.

Ms Carr's boyfriend, Mr Ian Huntley (28), has been charged with their murders but has not appeared in court due to concerns over his mental health. He is being held in a high-security psychiatric hospital.

Mr James said he was "resigned" to the negative press coverage and "fully expected" it to affect the trial.
