A 20-year-old Co Louth woman remained in a critical condition in hospital yesterday after she was discovered unconscious with severe injuries on a roadside near Drogheda last week.

Breda Ryan, who is from the Cedarfield area in Drogheda, was found by a passing driver alongside the Slane Road near Drogheda - two miles from her home - shortly after 6am last Friday, July 28th.

She was unconscious and had suffered severe head bruising and injuries to her upper body.

She is in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital and has not regained consciousness. Gardaí say they are "nearly 100 per cent certain" she did not suffer her injuries in a hit-and-run crash.

"We have not yet established whether she was assaulted at the scene, whether she jumped from a car or whether she was pushed from a car . . . and we have not been able to interview the injured party because she is badly injured," a spokesman said.
