A woman was killed today in a single-car crash in Co Westmeath.
The woman in her 40s crashed at 11.40am on the N52 Mullingar-to-Kilbeggan road at Carrick, Mullingar, when her car went through a fence, ending up in a field.
She was on her own in the car at the time.
Her body was brought to Mullingar general hospital for a postmortem, a Garda spokesman said.
Garda statistics show that 280 people have died on the State's roads this year, compared to 314 for the same period last year.
