Woman arrested over Northern Bank robbery

A woman (40) has been arrested in Co Tyrone in connection with the Northern Bank robbery in Belfast.

A woman (40) has been arrested in Co Tyrone in connection with the Northern Bank robbery in Belfast.

The arrest was made by PSNI officers in Coalisland this morning. The woman has been taken to the Serious Crime Suite in Antrim police station for questioning.

A total of £26.5 million was stolen in the robbery at the Northern Bank in December 2004. The raid, in which members of staff were held hostage and threatened, was blamed on the Provisional IRA.

The trial of a Co Cork chef - arrested as part of a Garda investigation into alleged laundering of the proceeds of the raid - was adjourned in Dublin this morning.
