Woman and baby rescued from Co Down fire

A woman and her 15 month-old baby were rescued from a fire at a flat in Bangor, Co Down, early today.

A woman and her 15 month-old baby were rescued from a fire at a flat in Bangor, Co Down, early today.

The fire occurred at Lisnabreen Walk at around 1am. Local fire crews arrived after receiving a call from the woman and baby trapped inside the first-floor flat.

Fire Service staff remained in contact with the woman, reassuring her to stay put until the crews arrived. On arrival, the crews found the flat was full of smoke and used a ladder to carry the baby out.

The woman and two men from other flats were also led to safety.

In Belfast, eight people were rescued from a fire in a block of flats in the south of the city. The blaze at Tollgate House in Bradbury Place was noticed around 5am.

It is believed to have started accidentally in a second floor apartment.

Residents were alerted by fire alarms but had to deal with thick smoke.
