CANDIDATE:A 75-YEAR-OLD woman, who maintains older people need a strong voice in Dáil Éireann, will possibly be the oldest candidate to contest the 2011 general election.

Ballina-based Loretta Clarke has signalled her intention to run as an Independent in the five-seater Mayo constituency.

She believes the voices of elderly people are not being heard in modern Ireland and their needs are not being met.

Mrs Clarke is encouraging likeminded senior citizens in other constituencies to also run in the election.

She maintains that none of the political parties are making the needs of the elderly a priority, therefore she has reluctantly decided to take up the issue on their behalf.
