The widow of an Aer Corps pilot who died in a helicopter accident in Tramore, Co Waterford three years ago has been awarded more than €1 million by the High Court.

Ms Maria O'Flaherty, widow of the late Captain Dave O'Flaherty, took the action after her husband was among four Aer Corps personnel who died when their aircraft crashed in sand dunes in Tramore beach in July 1999.

Mr Justice Barry White approved a settlement of €1.1 million and costs in the High Court today. The court sat in Waterford.

Liability was conceded by the Minister for Defence.
