The trial of a Co Wicklow woman accused of murdering her husband at their public house is due to begin in the Central Criminal Court today. Ms Catherine Nevin was charged in 1997 with murdering Tom Nevin on March 19th, 1996, at Jack White's Inn in Brittas Bay, Arklow, and with soliciting three men to kill him.

Mr Nevin was killed with a shotgun blast fired at point-blank range into his side as he was counting takings in the back room of the pub. After the killing, a car used by the killers was found in Ranelagh, south Dublin.

Ms Nevin was arrested in April 1997 in Dublin after gardai received a direction to proceed with charges from the Director of Public Prosecutions office.

The case had been under investigation by a team of detectives based in Arklow, who questioned Ms Nevin and a number of men about the killing in 1996.

Ms Nevin sold the pub in 1998 for more than £500,000. Half of the proceeds went to Mr Nevin's estate, while the other half went to Ms Nevin.
