GARDAI in Waterford are expected to launch a murder investigation today following the death of a 35-year-old woman in her home yesterday.

The body of the woman, named locally as Ms Sandra Tobin, was found in her single-storey corporation house at Closegate, in the city centre, following an anonymous telephone call to Ballybricken Garda Station. It is understood her semi-naked body was found in a bedroom with a hold-all bag covering her head.

The Assistant State Pathologist, Ms Margaret Bolster, will carry out a post-mortem on the body at Waterford Regional Hospital this morning.

Early indications are that the house had been broken into. There was some smoke damage inside, possibly as a result of an attempt to set fire to the building. Ms Tobin was the mother of one child, Jennifer (7).
