A recently inaugurated Irish Coast Guard helicopter has performed its first rescue mission. A man was lifted to safety in Wexford by the coast guard helicopter when he experienced difficulties on a cliff in Annestown, Co Wexford.
It is understood the man was stuck 30 feet from the top of the cliff and some 40 feet from the bottom. The man was winched to safety by the helicopter crew and was unhurt but was suffering from shock.
This afternoon’s rescue is the rescue helicopter’s first successful mission. The helicopter assumed duty in Mayo on a 12 hour basis and will operate on a 24 hour basis from July the 1st.
