FESTIVAL WATCH SHOOTING CHAMPIONSHIPS, GALWAY:THE WORLD Down the Line Shooting Championships begin in Esker, Co Galway tomorrow and run until Saturday.
The event will feature 680 competitors from 13 countries.
Organisers are expecting crowds of up to 2,000.
Among the competitors will be 2006 world champion John Stafford, who is among the favourites along with Paul Chatlow, Kevin Thompson and Geoff Faukes.
The total €22,000 prize fund is split between six days of pre-events and world championships.
Organisers hope that three Irishmen - Jim Doherty from Co Donegal, Tom Allen from Northern Ireland and Joe Walsh from Co Kerry - will finish in the top 10.
"The final on Saturday will probably be the highlight, but the entire event will be noteworthy as is it the largest trap shooting event ever held in Ireland," said a spokeswoman for the event.
