A bench warrant has been issued for the arrest of a man charged with murder after he failed to appear before Killarney District Court yesterday. Robert Brian Anthony (49), of Derrylough, Tuosist, is charged with the murder of 19-year-old Philip O'Sullivan at Derrylough on August 22nd, 1997.

Mr Anthony had been remanded on bail granted by the High Court to appear before Killarney District Court yesterday morning but he failed to show up.

On the request of State solicitor, Mr Ed O'Sullivan, Judge Humphrey Kelleher issued a bench warrant for Mr Anthony's arrest.

Mr Anthony is also charged with being in the possession of cannabis resin, cannabis and cocaine for the purpose of sale or supply in Derrylough on August 23rd, 1997.

On this charge Judge Kelleher also issued a bench warrant for Mr Anthony's arrest and certified a breach of recognisance.

Judge Kelleher gave an order to have Mr Anthony's property sold under the powers of the relevant Act. "I refused him bail in the District Court and he got it in the High Court. The dove has flown the coop," he remarked.
