Warehouse destroyed in Cork fire

A warehouse at a wood preservative company in Little Island, Cork, has been destroyed by fire.

The fire started at the Protim Services Timber Preservation and Damp Proofing outlet shortly after 7pm last night.

Some 50 firefighters from Cork, Cobh and Midleton tackled the blaze.

An examination of the premises will be carried out today.

It is understood there was no one in the building, which housed thousands of tonnes of toxic chemicals, when the fire broke out.

A Garda spokesman said the fire was not being treated as suspicious.
