Independent TD Mick Wallace has resigned from the technical group of TDs, it emerged this evening.

Independent TD Mick Wallace has resigned from the technical group of TDs, it emerged this evening.

On June 11th, the TD had "voluntarily removed himself" from the group following a request from its 10 Independent members after their whip Catherine Murphy spoke to Mr Wallace.

That move came in the wake of Mr Wallace's admission he knowingly made a false VAT declaration to the Revenue in respect of his construction company MJ Wallace Ltd.

Earlier this month Independent for Dublin South Shane Ross, a member of the technical group, said he had asked Mr Wallace on June 8th to consider resigning from the group.

Yesterday, the Dáil Select Committee on Members’ Interests said it will again write to Mr Wallace in relation to his tax affairs “seeking answers to all the questions asked of him by the committee last week”.

The committee was tasked to examine Mr Wallace’s VAT affairs after the revelation that he made a €2.1 million settlement with the Revenue Commission for under- declaration of VAT arising from the failure of MJ Wallace Ltd to make full tax returns on apartment sales over a two-year period.

The committee is due to meet again next week.
