Embattled Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid said today he was not worried by the possibility of being impeached over two financial scandals linked to him.
"I am not concerned at all," Wahid told a news conference when asked if he feared impeachment, one day after he outraged a parliamentary team probing the scandals by refusing to answer questions at a hearing.
Wahid, who has denied any wrongdoing over the scandals, could face complicated impeachment proceedings if the parliamentary team uncovers evidence of criminal activity against him.
In a bid to ease tensions, Wahid also invited MPs to an informal gathering at the palace on Saturday. It was unclear if this only applied to members of the parliamentary team.
A full session of parliament will decide on Monday what action to take over the two financial scandals.
