Harare - Early official results obtained yesterday in Zimbabwe's constitutional referendum indicated a majority vote against the proposed draft drawn up by a government-appointed team and backed by the President, Mr Robert Mugabe.

The initial slant towards a rejection of the constitution will deal a blow to Mr Mugabe before parliamentary elections in April as the referendum verdict is seen as a test of his grip on power.
