A VIGIL WAS held last night in Dungannon, Co Tyrone, for a man who was stabbed to death on his way home from his daughter’s 18th birthday party.
Six people have been arrested and questioned in connection with the incident.
Hundreds of locals gathered yesterday evening to attend the vigil for Eamonn Hughes (48) who was murdered on the Lisnahull estate in Dungannon early on Saturday after leaving his daughter’s party.
There were emotional scenes as prayers and decades of the Rosary were recited.
Mr Hughes’s wife, Eileen, was supported by friends and family, including her children Kevin, Siobhan and Tracy.
Kevin is believed to have been injured during the incident, and was thought to have been hit in the arm with a crossbow bolt.
Two women who tried to help were struck by a stolen taxi.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is believed to be investigating the possibility that a group refused entry to the party may have subsequently lain in wait for Mr Hughes as he returned home on foot.
As investigations continued yesterday a sixth man was brought in by the police for questioning.
The authorities have so far released three of the six suspects on bail pending further reports.
