THE SOOTHING sounds of Beethoven, Britten and Brahms will replace political hyperbole at Hillsborough Castle as part of this year’s KBC Music in Great Irish Houses Festival.

The festival programme, announced yesterday, includes a concert at the Georgian mansion in Co Down where cellist Guy Johnston and pianist Kathryn Stott will perform from the three composers’ chamber music repertoire. Other venerable venues included in the festival, which runs from June 12th to 18th, include the Baroque Chapel in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin; Kilruddery House, Co Wicklow; Castletown House, Co Kildare; and the Freemason’s Hall, the chapel at Trinity College, the National Concert Hall and Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin.

Leading Irish and international musicians will feature at the festival, including English cellist Hannah Roberts and Australian pianist Lance Coburn. Details at musicgreatirishhouses.com.
