A train sliced through a van on an unmanned crossing yesterday, killing the van driver instantly. Mr Bonny Mullan (40), a father of three children, was on his way to work when the accident happened near Dunloy, Co Antrim.

A family friend said. "He often warned people to be careful on the crossing. It must have been a momentary lapse on his part." None of the 23 passengers and three staff on the 70 a.m. train from Belfast was injured.
