US President Mr George W. Bush tonight said the US will "ask the tough questions" about Chinese pilots' practice of challenging US reconnaissance flights off China, when the two sides meet to discuss the April 1st collision between a US Navy plane and a Chinese fighter.
Earlier tonight a C-17 cargo jet carrying the 24 crew members of a US surveillance aircraft held for 11 days in China landed in Hawaii this evening.
A brass band, about 200 spectators and almost as many journalists greeted the jet as it touched down just after sunrise at 6:23 a.m. (16:23 GMT).
Lieut Shane Osborne, pilot of the EP-3 spy plane forced to make an emergency landing on April 1st on China's Hainan island, was expected to speak on leaving the aircraft.
