An unknown number of aircraft dropped thousands of yellow plastic sacks containing individual daily rations several kilometres south of Khwaja Bahuddine, in the north of Takhar province under the control of the Northern Alliance.

The sacks, scattered over an area several hundred metres wide by several kilometres long, contained staple foods such as vegetables or rice and also biscuits and fruitcake.

US President George W. Bush recently announced aid totalling 320 million dollars for Afghanistan and several other countries.
