The USmilitary has said initial findings indicate US-ledforces were not responsible for an attack on a Russiandiplomatic convoy in Iraq in which several people were wounded.

It said in a statement from US war headquarters in Qatarthat the convoy was hit in Iraqi-held territory and no US orBritish forces had been operating there at the time.

"Initial field reports reveal that no coalition forces wereoperating in the area of the incident," US Central Commandsaid in a statement.

"Based on the reported location, the incident is believed tohave taken place in territory controlled by the Iraqi regime.

The inquiry into this incident continues and more details willbe made available as soon as possible."
