Medical equipment maker Becton Dickinson said today it will create 125 new jobs as it unveiled plans for an expansion of its facility in Drogheda.
The US company is to invest €52 million in its Drogheda operation which currently emplys 95 people.
Becton Dickinson was one of the first IDA-supported overseas medical technology companies to establish a facility in Ireland, beginning operations in Drogheda in 1964 and Dun Laoghaire in 1970. It currently employs a total of 450 people in Ireland across the two facilities.
Both Irish facilities are currently global manufacturing centres for specific diabetes care devices - blood lancets in Drogheda and insulin injecting pen needles in Dun Laoghaire.
The Drogheda centre will be responsible for the manufacture of a pre-filled syringe called BD Saline XS,which is the company's first investment of this type at a European site.
