Manchester United have denied reports that midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron will miss the start of the season with an Achilles tendon injury.

The club said the Argentina World Cup player will not be operated on and will instead travel to Bournemouth to continue with pre-season preparations.

He is expected to take part against Bournemouth in today's testimonial for former manager Mel Machin.

United's director of communications Paddy Haverson said: "Juan Sebastian Veron is in the squad to play Bournemouth today and it is highly unlikely that we would risk him if he were facing an operation.

"There has been no talk at Manchester United of Seba facing an operation."
