Manchester United's French international Mikael Silvestre has quashed rumours he wants to leave the Premiership champions.

In a statement on his personal website Silvestre said reports suggesting he was unhappy at Old Trafford and would seek a move were wrong.

"Apparently, I'm supposed to have said that I'm unhappy and that I don't understand the defensive selections made by Alex Ferguson," Silvestre said.

"That's completely wrong. I never said anything like that - I spoke after the Liverpool match and I think I must have been mistranslated," he said.

"I'm playing regularly and have no problems here. I'm working hard and I haven't questioned anything," he said.

United's defence has been unsteady his season, as the club struggles to adjust following the shock sale of Dutch international Jaap Stam to Lazio in September.
