Proposals for the involvement of the Rehabilitation Institute (Rehab) in training the long term unemployed and travellers, as well as people with disabilities, have been rejected by members of SIPTU employed by the voluntary body.

Far reaching proposals put forward by the training division of Rehab were announced recently by the Minister for Enterprise and Employment, Mr Richard Bruton. But Mr Mike Jennings, of SIPTU, said no negotiations had taken place with his union and Rehab had "a very bad record when it comes to industrial relations".
