Conakry - The UN refugee agency UNHCR said yesterday it had completed the evacuation of 57,000 refugees from Guinea's restive southern border.

The refugees, from Sierra Leone and Liberia, fled civil wars in their homelands in the 1990s for the relative safety of Guinea, but have been caught up in a widening regional conflict around the diamond fields where the three West African countries' borders meet.
