The UN war crimes tribunal has ordered a full medical exam for the former Yugoslav president, Mr Slobodan Milosevic, whose illnesses have delayed his trial by nearly a month.

The resumption of the trial has again been postponed for another week.

It will allow Mr Milosevic to recover from what a tribunal spokesman described as "flu" and a high fever.

"In the light of present illness the trial chamber orders a full medical examination of the accused," said Judge Richard May.

The judges had so far been given only a "perfunctory" medical report, Judge May said. He ordered the detailed report be complete by July 17th.

Mr Milosevic fell ill two weeks ago, the second time he caught flu since his trial began on 66 counts of war crimes. He is the highest ranking person to go on trial since the court was established in 1993.
