Former Tour de France winner Jan Ullrich has been given the green light to resume racing after being sidelined for 15 months by a doping ban and injury.

The 29-year-old was suspended from competition until March 23rd after testing positive for amphetamines.

But the sport's ruling body, UCI, has given the go-ahead for the German to resume racing.

Ullrich said - after failing the dope test - that he had taken pills at a nightclub after suffering from depression following two knee operations.

The 1997 Tour de France winner is regarded as the only man capable of beating four times Tour winner Lance Armstrong in the the world's greatest cycle race.
