Around 400 peace demonstrators blocked traffic in central London near the British Prime Minister’s residence at 10 Downing Street in London for two hours today in a protest against US-led military strikes on Afghanistan.

The demonstrators came from the Justice not Vengeanceumbrella group, which includes the Green Party, the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, Pax Christi and the Campaign Against the Arms Trade.

As protestors sat under the pouring rain, organiser Mr Gabriel Carlyle said: "Unless the bombing stops and a massive aid effort is launched immediately thousands- if not hundreds of thousands - of people will certainly die."

The demonstration went off without incident.
