The UDA has admitting carrying out a gun attack on one of its most senior political representatives in Belfast. The paramilitary group has said it carried out a 'punishment' attack on Mr Davy Mahood.

He was shot in the legs in the Ballysillan area of north Belfast on Thursday night. A UDA statement claimed the action had been taken following a four-month investigation.

Mr Mahood was a member of the Ulster Political Research Group which gives political analysis to the paramilitary organisation.
