An Irish heart and lungs transplant recipient has discovered that he has become a lifesaver himself after his own heart was given to a woman suffering from serious illness.

Cystic fibrosis patient Mr Dermot Fenton (24), from Glenville in north Cork, underwent a heart and lungs transplant in Harefield Hospital in Middlesex on November 20th. His own heart was given to an Englishwoman suffering from a serious heart illness, and they later met in the hospital gym.

"It felt a bit strange to meet somebody who's got your heart," said Mr Fenton.
