Two people were seriously injured in a crash in north Kerry yesterday evening.

Emergency medical services, gardaí and fire brigade units were at the scene of a crash on the N21 in Co Kerry last night.

The incident, which initial reports from the scene said was "very serious", occurred at 7.30pm between Feale's Bridge and Hedley's Bridge on the new road between Kerry and Abbeyfeale in west Limerick.

A priest was at the scene amid concerns for the serious nature of the injuries to two of the adults, who had to be cut from their vehicles. A number of other people were also removed to hospital and their injuries were described as not life threatening.

Up to three cars were involved and the road was closed.

Conditions at the time were described as dry. The €34 million road opened earlier this year.

Meanwhile, the funerals of a Co Wexford mother and her two children who died in a car crash on Wednesday will take place this weekend. Jacinta Sinnott (24), her son Trevor (4) and daughter Tanya (19 months) from Holdmanhill, Duncormick, Co Wexford, died when their car collided with an articulated truck on the N25 road at Larkin's Cross near Wexford town.

Their remains will be removed to St Peter's Church in Ballymitty, Co Wexford, this evening and they will be buried together after requiem Mass tomorrow morning.

Local curate Fr Gerald O'Leary said they would be laid to rest in a family grave where Ms Sinnott's younger brother, Gary (19), was buried following his death in a road crash last May.

Ms Sinnott's daughter Chelsea (7) survived the crash and is recovering in Wexford General Hospital. The fifth occupant of the car, Lee Murphy (16), who had been transferred to a Dublin hospital, has now returned to the Wexford hospital where he is out of danger.
