Two young men are being questioned after three handguns were recovered at a house in west Dublin by gardai this morning.

A man wearing a balaclava in a car on Collinstown Road was spotted by uniformed gardaí on patrol.

The car was pursued onto Moorefield Green where both men abandoned the car and continued their escape on foot.

The men, aged in their twenties, were later arrested and are being questioned at Lucan Garda Station under Section 30 Offences Against the State Act.

A follow-up search of a house on Moorefield Green led to three handguns being recovered.

John Curran Fianna Fáil TD for Dublin mid west said the recovery of the three handguns "may well have saved lives"
