Two men are recovering in hospital this morning following paramilitary-style attacks in Northern Ireland.

A 35-year-old man was shot in the leg at Ballyaire Drive, in the New Mossley area of Belfast yesterday evening. Police who went to investigate the shooting were attacked by a mob of stone-throwing youths, a PSNI spokesman said.

And in Lurgan, a 33-year-old man was severely beaten and shot in the leg during an attack at a social club in the Silverwood Road in the Co Armagh town at around 8 pm.

He was approached by a number of masked men in the foyer of the club, beaten with batons and shot once in the leg.

He is being treated in hospital for a fractured elbow, head injuries and the gunshot wound.
