Two young men have been seriously injured in separate assaults in Northern Ireland.

In Co Antrim a 21-year-old man suffered injuries to his head and body after being beaten with iron bars by a group of up to 10 masked men.

The paramilitary-style attack occurred after the men broke into a house in the Rockfergus Mews part of Carrickfergus early this morning.

The victim is being treated in hospital.

In Co Down a man was beaten unconscious after he left a bar in Kilkeel in what police are treating as a sectarian attack.
