Two men questioned over sword attacks in Newry

Two men in their early 20s were arrested today in connection with two sword attacks in Co Down.

Two men in their early 20s were arrested today in connection with two sword attacks in Co Down.

The first incident happened in James Connolly Square in Newry last night when a man was attacked by a man wielding a sword. A short time later another man was attacked in nearby Monaghan Street.

Both victims received treatment in hospital for minor injuries.

Meanwhile, a man is in a stable condition in hospital after being stabbed three times in the Shantallow area of Derry.

The victim was walking in the Donkey Field area in Ardnamoyle shortly after midnight when he was confronted by a teenager brandishing a knife.

There was a struggle during which the man received three wounds to the upper body and arm. He managed to crawl to a nearby house and raise the alarm.
