Two elderly men were killed yesterday in road traffic accidents in Co Cork and Co Meath.
A man in his 80s was fatally injured when the van he was driving collided with a car at Sleaveen East in Macroom, Co Cork.
The accident happened at 9.45am. The man was taken to Cork University Hospital where he died at 2pm. His name has not been released.
The driver of the car was not injured.
Gardaí at Macroom have appealed for witnesses to call them at 026-20590.
Meanwhile, a 72-year-old man died following an accident in Piercetown, Dunboyne, Co Meath, at 1pm.
He was fatally injured when the car in which he was a passenger was involved in a collision with a lorry.
He was taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown in Dublin where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the car is being treated for serious injuries.
Gardaí at Dunboyne are investigating the incident.
