Two men held over drug seizure in Co Laois

Gardaí have arrested two men following the seizure of amphetamines yesterday valued at €100,000 in Co Laois.

Gardaí have arrested two men following the seizure of amphetamines yesterday valued at €100,000 in Co Laois.

Both men, according to Gardaí, are from Clara, Co Offaly and are being detained under section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Offences Act.

The drugs were discovered in open ground in Ballythomas, the Heath, Co Laois.

Both men are still being questioned and can be held for up to seven days under the Act.

Meanwhile investigations were continuing after customs officers seized amphetamines valued at more than EUR1.27 million being transferred from London to New York through Dublin.

About 500kg of the drug was uncovered yesterday.

The drugs were detected in air freight at Dublin Airport. No arrests were made.
