Two youths are recovering in hospital after being attacked with a machete in a house in Cork this morning.

Two youths are recovering in hospital after being attacked with a machete in a house in Cork this morning.

A Garda spokeswoman said the incident happened in a rented house at Shamrock Lawn in Douglas, in the south of the city.

Two men, at least one of whom was armed with a machete, broke into the house at around 3.30 a.m. and attacked the two occupants.

The male victims are recovering from their injuries, which are not said to be life-threatening, in intensive care in Cork University Hospital.

The scene has been sealed off pending a technical examination.

Gardaí are still trying to establish a motive for the attack.
